Wild Turkey is distilled at a low proof to seal in its flavours. As Wild Turkey comes out of the warehouse, very little distilled water is added. As a result, Wild Turkey is full flavoured and very similar to the authentic bourbon taste one gets straight from the barrel.
As the climate in Kentucky varies greatly in winter and summer, the barrels expand and contract at a pronounced rate, hastening the maturation process of Wild Turkey Bourbon and ultimately improving its quality.
Wild Turkey Bourbon is alway aged in new white oak barrels. This new wood means that the bourbon draws a great deal of colour and flavour from the barrel, with vanilla and caramel being the predominant characteristics, Wild Turkey uses barrels with the heaviest deep-layer char, which lends Wild Turkey its signature flavour and deep russet colour.
